Shami Kebabs originated from Syria . It is a famous dish in India and Pakistan . During the festive season of Ramadan it is delicacy.
The word ‘Sham’ literally means ‘Syrian’ and hence if translated shami kebabs would be called ‘Syrian Kebabs’. Shami kebab is known as a Royal Dish and was originally eaten by the Mughal Kings in South Asia . Some people also believe that Shami Kebab originated from the Hoshiarpur District of Punjab .
For Bohri’s Shami Kebab is a famous kharas which is served with tomato ketchup with salad leaves, tomatoes and cucumbers to go with it.

Ingredients
½ Kg Mince meat
1 Cup Channa Dal
5 Gms Garam Masala
1”Ginger
4 Flakes Garlic
1 Onion
6 Green Chilies
1 Potato (Boiled and Mashed))
½ Lime
Salt, Pepper and Chili Powder to taste
A few Coriander Leaves
3 Beaten Eggs
Method
- Wash the mince meat and drain out the water.
- Wash and soak dal for an hr.
- Finely chop the green chilies, ginger, garlic, onion and coriander leaves.
- Mix the dal and mince meat and add green chilies, ginger, onion, salt, pepper, garlic, garam masala, ½ cup water and cook it till the dal and mince meat are cooked and are dried up completely.
- Grind this mixture and add coriander leaves, potato, lime juice and adjust the seasoning.
- Separate the yolks from the whites and add the yolks to the mince meat and mix it well.
- Divide the mixture into 12 balls. Roll the balls in oval shaped kebabs.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the kebabs till golden brown.
- Serve hot with sweet and sour chili sauce.
