Rawa is called Semolina in English. The word Semolina is Italian and means Flour.
Rawa is also called sheera and is considered to be a traditional sweet dish. It is prepared by the hindus and served as Prasad during festivals.
As bohris rawa is generally made on our pehli raat (new year). Well, friends this was the first time I made rawa at my place as it was my first new year after marriage and so it had a very special touch.
Ingredients
1 Cup Rawa/Suji
1 Cup Sugar
11/2 Cup Water
1 Cup Milk
2 Tsp Ghee
½ Tsp Cardamom Powder
A Pinch of Saffron
A few Sliced Almonds to Garnish
Method
- Dissolve the saffron in about 2 Tbsp milk and keep aside.
- Heat water in a pan and mix sugar with it. Boil. Simmer for sometime and take off the heat.
- Heat ghee in a pan and roast the rawa till light golden in colour on a medium flame.
- Add milk, sugar syrup, dissolved saffron and stur continuously till it turns into a thick halwa.
- Place in serving plate or bowl and garnish with almonds.
